During our trip to New England, we also visited this cemetery.
It was founded in 1850 by Warren Delano, maternal grandfather of president Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945). 20 some relatives were buried here, except FDR and his wife Eleanor (1884-1962).
The town of Stonington, settled in 1649 in CT, is very charming: stone is SEEN everywhere. Population 18,335 (2020 census). Most photos are taken at the house of Captain Nathaniel Palmer (1799-1877), which was built in 1852-54, a museum now.
There is Stonington Island in Antarctic, named after Cape. Nathaniel Palmer (1799-1877) when he saw the Antarctic Peninsula, the northernmost part of mainland Antarctica on 1820.11.17 on his sloop 单桅帆船 Hero. That area would be known as Palmer Land nowadays (wiki: Graham Land in UK, O’Higgins Land in Chile and Tierra de San Martín in Argentina). He was a seal hunter and explorer. Stonington Island was used as the site for the East Base of US Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-41).

Another research trip to New England, from Thursday July 29 to Sunday August 1.
We packed many agendas but as the trip progresses, we also came up on some unexpected discoveries, pleasantly surprised, indeed.

On the way home we can’t find a restaurant that open on Sunday: all due to shortage of staff. Not sure if we would coexist with the covid-19 pandemic onward.

This was the first lighthouse museum in US, opened in 1927, after government sold it in 1925 for $3,650, to the Stonington Historical Society. One ticket entitles you to visit the Palmer house too.
A house in the middle of a pond …
We passed by this little charming house on the way into Rockport. Feeling enchanted and decided to go there, to discover.
A little disappointing, or we didn’t give her enough time. Anyway, we drove in and out quickly. Didn’t find her attractive, and left.

Great view and vibe. Cute. Small. Neat.
What not to like? Two bay windows are used as condiments stations. They serve simple fares, so it could be a whole day affair.

This little shack is a good place for a quick bit or slow chow (BYOB) on their patio at the back, by the Rockport Harbor. Although I don’t find their fish cake delicious (dead & thick: floury) but the crab s and lobsters are good. The service is amiable and efficient.
The two seater by the door is made from lobster trap – neat. My review on Yelp.
On our way down from Acadia, we stopped at Arundel Wharf Restaurant for lunch and walked around the downtown. This town is made famous by the elder George Bush, the #41. But reportedly according to the New Englanders, the town is well known to the locals as a favorite summer vacation spot. Tourists are plentiful.
We left for Rockport, MA.

Rockport Music-Shalin Liu Performance Center is awesome. The backdrop of the stage is spectacular. And the interior is elegant and simple. Unfortunately our event is a movie: The Lehman Trilogy, which screen blocked the view. Oh well, we’ll just have to visit it again.
The Lehman Trilogy is an interesting play turned into a movie. Three actors and a piano – the pianist is a girl. It’s about the Wall Street firm that fall in 2008 – still remember Glucksman and Peterson … the trader won. ..
