Mutter @ West Palm Beach

Kravis Center
701 Okeechobee Blvd,
West Palm Beach, FL 33401

Anne-Sophie Mutter (1963-, 🐇) performs at West Palm Beach’s Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts 😎 It’s a first for her, in Florida.

Apparently she loves it – the warm temperature.

The program. Two Vivaldi ..???

El Camino 道路

700 South Rosemary Avenue, Suite #232
West Palm Beach, FL 33401

Initially, we planed to go to City Cellar after the concert but it closes at 10pm on weekdays. So we ended up at El Camino, which opens till 1am. Thanks for feeding us.

The place is on the second floor and large. They’ve some very nice murals on the wall and the domed ceiling, and interesting tiles – look like my childhood home’s tiles.

Good wine (Daou Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 & Decoy Merlot 2019), guacamole and empanada. The chips and salsa is so so.

Their Mexican soul food (made by their Ft Lauderdale Mexcal & Tequila Bar?) red sauce is exceptionally good: light and fruitful. I stole purchased a bottle -:)

Rosemary Square

700 S Rosemary Ave
West Palm Beach, FL 33401

A lively area and the center of their downtown. To the west, is the Clear Lake and east Worth Lagoon. The Kravis Center is a five minutes walk to the east. We found a valet parking ($12) easily, by the Harriet Himmel Theater.

Harriet Himmel Theater opened in 1926, used, among other events, for weddings till 2020. Now it’s Christ Fellowship congregation.

There are plenty shops, restaurants and pop ups.

Malakor Thai Cafe

425 25th St
West Palm Beach, FL 33407

Will return.

Lush. Yummy. Good service.

Once in a blue moon, I go to Thai because I find their taste to be bit too sweet. Glad I went today.

Exterior is lush. Many handsome plants and pretty flowers. They’ve outdoor area too. We chose inside, for no apparent reason.

We’ve tried the following three dishes:

– spareribs: chewy, the sauce is good; the redness is normal
– drunken noodles – I’d call it 干炒牛河 yummy
– Laab Kai/chicken salad: good too. We asked for #2 spicy out of 5 levels, which is just right.

Singha beer is so so. The house white which is Woodbridge Chardonnay, is decent. All the veggies are crispy and fresh.

The wood carvings on the bathroom doors are similar to the pieces I just ordered from Amazon, in darker color. Albright I’ve not decided what to do with them yet will figure it out, hopefully soon.

Caffe Italia

10277 Big Bend Road
Riverview, FL 33578

Will return – steaming hot Italian food!

Homey and casual, they get pretty busy on a Monday night with one serving staff by the time we left. The large chairs make the space looks jammed.

Hot bread and yummy butter. They substitute mussels with claims, which I prefer anyway.

The chicken masala tastes the best among the dishes we ordered. Eggplants parmigiana is plain. The portion is on the large side.

They serve a huge bowl of pasta and hot mixed veggies on the house. The freebies are surprise but more surprise is their cooked veggie – LOVE it.

They don’t have liquor license: no fee for BYOB with your own glasses.

La Calle, the food truck

6642 Big Bend Road
Gibsonton, FL 33534

We ordered in: burgers 🍔 and fries 🍟

Bit too sweet for me!

The fries is heavy with jam, hot dogs (?) and cheese 🧀 and more, oh well.

Sarasota FL 萨拉索塔

Their opera house

This small city (also the namesake county seat) is on the west side / Gulf Coast of Florida, with a 54,842 population (2020 census), which 77.7% are white, 2.1% Asian. The few times we were there, we hardly see any Asians.

They’ve an opera house, concert halls (Van Wezel & Holley Hall), botanical gardens in two locations, a tennis tourney, a pretty grand library, Ringling Museum, and wonderful restaurants, many are on Main Street.

The part of Main St near the opera house has many decent restaurants, such as Duval’s.

… some of the eateries & bars in town:

Some events and places:

Selby (William G, an oilman and his wife Marie, history; their foundation😉 is everywhere: two botanic gardens are name after him/her: However, there seems no page for them on wikipedia at this writing.

Columbia Restaurant

2117 E 7th Ave
Tampa, FL 33605
Ybor City

A Michelin guide restaurant

Wow … another Dream Host victim

an old world in the new city (I always feel Tampa is an up and coming place …) – Will return. Love their tiles! One of Food is delicious, starting from their steaming hot bread … they’re terrrrrriblllly good, and I finished it all. We’ve several small plates. The scallops is tender, better than the shrimps, and I finished the sauce with the bread – ya you can’t take me anywhere. The strawberry 🍓 on the flan could be fresher. 🍷 Jean Leon 3055 is really delicious sharp and full

Demens Landing Park

Bayshore Dr. & 2nd Ave. S.
Saint Petersburg, FL 33701

By 6:15, when we made to the park, it’s dark already. The northern tip is very close to St. Pete Pier. The southern end is on South Yacht Basin, looking out to Mahaffey Theater and the Albert Whitted airport.

The St. Petersburg Sailing Center (@ 250 2nd Ave SE, St. Petersburg, FL 33701) is also on the tiny island.
